(a) LAAT: An ant colony pheromone algorithm is used to identify and highlight 1-dimensional structures embedded in a noisy background. 

(b) MBMS: A diffusion algorithm is used to locate the spine of the 1D structures that the Ants recovered.

(c) DimIndex: The dimensionality of different structures is identified (1D vs 2D vs 3D) using Principle component analysis.

(d) Multi-manifold Crawling: Tracing out of 1-D structures with a series of continuously linked straight line vectors.

(e) SGTM: Membership of 1-D structures is identified probabilistically.
